Contraindications & Safety
If you are unsure whether treatment is suitable for you, please feel free to get in touch before booking.
Contraindications & Safety
Sports massage and soft tissue therapy can be an effective method of supporting muscular health, recovery, and physical performance. However, there are situations where treatment may not be appropriate.
The information below outlines circumstances where treatment may need to be postponed, modified, or avoided in order to ensure safe and responsible practice.
When Treatment Should Not Take Place
Sports massage should not be performed if you currently have:
• An acute injury, including recent sprains, strains, or muscle tears
• Fever, infection, or contagious illness
• Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) or suspected blood clot
• Unexplained swelling or severe inflammation
• Skin infections, open wounds, or contagious skin conditions in the treatment area
In these circumstances, treatment should be postponed until the condition has resolved or appropriate medical advice has been obtained.
Conditions Requiring Caution or Medical Advice
Some health conditions require additional consideration or medical clearance before treatment can proceed.
These may include:
• Recent surgery
• Cardiovascular conditions
• Neurological conditions affecting circulation or sensation
• Pregnancy
• Systemic or inflammatory medical conditions
If you are unsure whether sports massage is appropriate for your situation, it is recommended that you seek advice from a qualified healthcare professional before booking.
Health Screening
All clients are required to complete a health screening form prior to their appointment.
This allows the practitioner to:
• identify potential contraindications
• ensure treatment can be delivered safely
• operate within the appropriate professional scope of practice
Clients are responsible for providing accurate and honest health information to ensure treatment can be delivered safely.
Professional Scope of Practice
Sports massage therapy provided by Performance Consolidated operates within the professional scope of Level 3 and Level 4 Sports Massage Therapy qualifications.
This includes the assessment and treatment of non-acute soft tissue dysfunction, muscular tension, and movement restriction.
The service does not include medical diagnosis or treatment of acute injuries or medical conditions.
Where symptoms fall outside the practitioner’s scope of practice, clients may be advised to seek assessment from a qualified healthcare professional.
Practitioner Discretion
If information provided during consultation or health screening indicates that treatment is not appropriate or safe, the appointment may be postponed or cancelled.
Performance Consolidated reserves the right to decline or discontinue treatment where it is considered unsafe or outside the practitioner’s professional scope of practice.
Where appropriate, guidance may be provided regarding the most suitable next step.
